The building

The Clubhouse Looks the Way It Does Because of Jute

Many of the club’s early members were Dundee jute traders whose business ran to Calcutta, and the building they commissioned takes its cues, architecturally and in temperament, from Royal Calcutta Golf Club. The clock tower, the harled gables and the deep verandah all belong to that lineage.

Inside are three rooms with distinct characters, a trophy cabinet holding prizes that date to 1845, the Captains’ silver clubs, and a long-nosed club of the same year. Lunch runs from noon; dinner is served in the Dalhousie Room; and there is a glass of the club kümmel afterwards.

Dress standards

The Three Rooms

Each room carries its own dress standard, and no member of staff may make an exception.

  • The 19th Hole: long tables and cane chairs under honours boards, two members at the window looking down the closing hole
    Casual

    The 19th Hole

    Golfing attire, shorts and hoodies acceptable. The room that opens onto the terrace and looks straight down the closing hole.

  • The Hogan Lounge, the illuminated trophy cabinet its focal point, silverware on red-backed shelving
    Smart casual

    No shorts or waterproofs; clean spikeless shoes. The trophy cabinet holds prizes dating to 1845, the Captains' silver clubs and a long-nosed club of the same year.

    Jacket & tie

    The Dalhousie Room

    In the dining room, featuring a wall lined with portraits of Earls of Dalhousie and a view out to the first tee, jackets & ties are required for gentlemen and commensurate non golfing attire for ladies.

Catering

Dining at the Club

Casual to formal. From bacon rolls and coffee before golf, through to a full dinner in the Dalhousie Room with claret and kümmel afterwards, a wide variety of options are available.

Dining: Food & Beverages are available during Clubhouse Hours in the 19th hole bar and Hogan Lounge. If a formal lunch before golf or dinner after golf is desired please contact Clubhouse@panmuregolfclub.co.uk to check availability & discuss menus.
